I tested it by shooting towards a building about half a mile away. I was surprised that not only could I see the details of the building, I could actually see a lamp in a window ... from half a mile away!It does take a good tripod, patience, & practice to get a clear shot. I do a lot of animal and nature shots. To get good pictures of bears, moose, etc. you need a good telephoto lens. For the price, this is a really good lens.I would suggest a stable tripod.
